The
Isle of WOMEN or Tir na mBan
Tir na mBan
The Isle of Women.
Tir na mBan was a place sacred to the women of the otherworlds.
Many voyagers visit here; almost all searchers on the journey of
life visit this place of beauty, entertainment and pleasure.
It is place where the divine in Feminine form is celebrated. In
this aspect the divine is mysterious, dark, elusive, healing,
kind, and compassioate; the divine is sought through the
satisfaction of physical desires on one hand; and the
spirituality and ceremony of the Priestesses on the other. It is
the isle of witches, Priestesses, queens and gods, with all the
contradiction that that brings.
In all the stories the point is made that having tasted of all
earthly pleasures, the visitor grows tired and eager to continue
their journey. Thus although we here approach power, and
enlightenment, we are called back by our ties, and pulled forward
by our desire to know even more, experience even more.
Meditate upon the nature of Woman:
If male what is your secret opinion of women?
If female what is your secret opinion of other women?
Describe to your self your ideal of womanhood; then deliberately
rewrite it praising enthusiastically all the things you loath and
condemning the things you like. Compare the two accounts.
Meditate upon the Divine Woman
How easily we see Her as a mother and a nurse.
How easily we see Her as a Dark force, destructive and sinister.
Ho easily we see Her as Purity and Virtue.
How easily we see Her as The Whore and The Sacred Bitch.
Meditate upon the relationship between the physical and the
spiritual
Contemplate the divine in physical pleasures and the pleasurable
in spiritual exercises
What physical senses do we titillate in order to awaken our
spiritual selves? What do we use to achieve this?
Meditate upon Tir Na mBan
How would you most like to see yourself ? fully spiritual or
fully physical?
What makes you most uncomfortable ? being touched by a stranger
or seeing the emotional outburst of a stranger?
Imagine your ideal of the Goddess ? Does she nearest conform to
Mother, Maid, or Crone?
What do you associate with strength in the feminine?
What do you associate with weakness in the feminine?
Do you wish to be taken care of?
Do you fear being dependent?
Do you wish to take care of others?
Do you fear being leant upon?
Are you most comfortable when the physical and spiritual are
treated as separate areas of life?
Or do you feel uncomfortable when spirituality is seen as the
rejection of physicality and /or vice versa?
The Isle of Women is our spiritual home; full of the comforts a
mother/friend /lover will give allied to the magic and mystique
that we associate with the Feminine Divine.
In our attitudes to women, whatever our sex or sexuality, lie
some of the deepest secrets of our hearts. In our search for
spiritual balance we are drawn to the image of Priestess,
enchantress and Goddess; are we as loving to Her embodiment in
reality ? our sisters, mothers, wives, daughters, friends and
lovers?
These and other answers and visions that you draw from this isle
will help you understand its relevance to you at this point in
time
