From Eblanna : a series of commentaries
on the setbacks and obstacles encountered during Imramma.
To
understand the blocks and obstacles ones mind throws up during
IMM. one needs to understand the process. Imramma works to bring
three physical realities into alignment: the outer physical
reality of this world; the inner landscape of the soul; and the
sacred/magical landscape of the Other worlds. The purpose of
Imramma is to exist within all three at once, and fully. In order
to do so one needs to explore the inner landscape and the Other
Worlds and know them as one knows the physical world. This
requires to some extent that we leave aside ego, self
consciousness and over intellectualism.
Many
very intelligent people fail at Imramma because they allow
preconceptions to get in the way of experience. And make no
mistake Imramma is primarily an experiential event:
understanding and knowledge of the Celtic philosophies and
culture will make it a much deeper and richer experience, but no
amount of learning and knowledge can replace the actuality of
Imramma. Many people are overly burdened with theories and
expectations or overly concerned with appearing highly
intellectual. Ego is the biggest obstacle to Imrammic Meditation.

There
are voices inside our heads, all dedicated to the preservation of
our borders and of the terra incognita of the soul. I am
too complex, says one. Its all right for
others: they dont have the secrets I have, says
another. And yet another, I already know myself/am
experienced in meditation/know all about this sort of thing, I
can just plunge in I dont need to read or study or
practice.
Our
mind tries to distract you, trick you, defeat you. Why? Because
you are disturbing the very foundations of your illusion with
this reality. You are opening yourself up to things that you have
been taught consciously and subconsciously to fear from an early
age.
Imramma
is essentially an experiential event. Therefore it is also
essentially a solitary event. Avoid reliance on others
interpretations or guidance of your meditation. Imrammic teachers
do not guide meditations. We provide the tools and descriptions
and examples and then the student explores their own inner
landscape and through it makes connection with the other worlds.
It is a fine and delicate line between providing these tools and
controlling the student, and even experienced teachers have to
watch for the ego which makes a bid for control.
Imramma
is essentially solitary and therefore a lonely experience. We are
thrown back on our own judgement: asked to plumb the shifting
depths of our selves, with both discrimination and detachment,
while remaining fully present and involved.
The
scientific mind at this point usually runs into an obstacle
it is biased towards the detachment and control, towards
the observation. It finds it difficult to accept the fully
experiential can co-exist with the analytical. It throws up its
own set of ego-based obstacles as a reaction or
exacerbates already active weak spots.
Imramma
is an experiential event, which requires us to exist in several
ways at once, and to operate at several, seemingly dichotomous
levels simultaneously, reliant on our own judgement which also
actively trying to sabotage us.
