SAMHAIN
A GREAT WAY TO MARK SAMHAIN IS
TO MAKE A SAMHAIN WHEEL; USE ANY MATERIAL YOU LIKE, FROM WIRE TO
WOOD; THOUGH THE MORE NATURAL MATERIALS DO WORK WELL. MAKE A
CIRCLE, WITH EIGHT INNER SPOKES, AS NEAR TO THE LOOK OF A WHEEL
AS YOU CAN GET, AND WIND IVY, LEAVES, TRAILERS, VINES ETC, AROUND
THE OUTSIDE RIM, AND DOWN THE SPOKES. You are in effect making a
wreath, but in the very specific shape of a wheel.
On the first four spokes pin pieces of paper on which you have
written the names of
Four things you wish to leave behind come the new year
On the next four spokes pin pieces of paper on which you have
written the names of
Four things you wish to let enter your life in the new year.
As the evening passes, turn the wheel so that by midnight the
four things to leave your life are on the bottom of the wheel,
descendant , and the four things to enter your life are at the
top of the wheel, ascendant.
Pin the wheel to the wall or stand on a shelf until imbolc, when
you should take it outside and either burn on a bonfire, or bury
them underneath any area which is going to be growing produce/flowers
for spring and summer e.g. a flowerbed/ vegetable patch etc.
